Tubal Reversal Patient Explains Her Decision To Have Surgery With Dr. Berger.
'Babymamawannab', a tubal reversal patient writes on the Tubal Reversal Message Board, "I will tell you that when I did my research I was leaning toward Chapel Hill (CH). I called for my op report from my tubal ligation and was informed that my regular ob/gyn also performed this procedure. I immediately scheduled my annual appointment with him and at that appointment discussed TR. He told me that he would do it but he recommended that I go and check out Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center (CHTRC). He said it would be less invasive, no hospital stay thus keeping the cost down and a doctor who only performed this procedure. I never one time mentioned CH even though I had already done my research. I had my TR 4/24/09 and delivered a healthy baby boy exactly 1 year later on 4/24/2010." This post is in response to a new member of the messageboard who is undecided about where to have her tubal reversal performed. Many other patients who have had their tubal reversal surgeries performed at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center post their opinions on why it is the best place to have tubal ligation reversal done. Staff members also provide helpful information about the world's only Tubal Reversal Center.

Can anyone tell me why it is best to go to Chapel Hill for the reversal? It seems like there are cheaper places and more expensive ones and I just get more and more confused. Impatient in California

Because they are the BEST!! Dr. Berger has done more TR surgeries that anyone in the world. This practice is my ideal of what every medical practice SHOULD be. They think of everything and make sure you are well informed. They care for you as a person, not just a patient. The care and follow up you receive is simply unparalleled. They call at 6 months and one year afterward to check on you. If you have any questions at all 7 days a week you can email and get a reply within hours. I had my TR in 2002 and up to and including my last pregnancy in 2009, I would still email questions and got responses usually within minutes. Their goal is to help you have a successful pregnancy, so your relationship with them does not end when you leave their facility. As long as you need them they are there. You cannot go wrong choosing CHTRC! HTH, Jo Ann

CHTRC is hands down the BEST!! I researched for 2+ years and have 3 TR "places" in surrounding states to me or I could have gone to 2 surgeons (including my OBGYN) that could have performed the surgery for me in a nearby hospital. None of them could stand up to Chapel Hill! The most important thing for us was 1. Who has been performing these surgeries the longest? 2. Type of Facility 3. Type of Procedure to repair (I did NOT want laparascopic procedure done. Yes, it is easier to recover from, but I did not want sloppy surgery done through the view of a camera! That could mean blocked tubes! 4. Cost After lots of research, I always came back here. Dr. B and Dr. M ONLY do reversals, so it felt good knowing their entire job is dedicated to these surgeries. They are doing them every day. I didn't want a guy that does them twice a year. It seemed that the facilities I saw that were cheaper just couldn't produce good statitics or even show expertise, or worse, it would be laparoscopic. I was just in Chapel Hill with my DH in July and we had the best experience! The PP is right, other medical practices SHOULD be run like CHTRC. It is a well oiled machine filled with people who love their job and take top notch care of you from the first phone call until long after your surgery! They are AMAZING!!! No regrets!! i dont think you will ever find a better place. when you want another child you have to make sure you go to the best.i wouldnt of went anywhere else even if it was half price and next door to my house! just the follow up care is worth the money. none of my other doctors have a message board for support, nor will they answer questions even a year or two after surgery or look over records from other DR's for free.
i thank god every day for Dr berger and his staff when i look a my daughter.

Hi Impatient. I couldn't agree more with what the others have said. My DF had the same reservations as you do. He even refered to CH as the "Walmart of Surgery Centers". LOL! When I met with my regular OB/GYN and told him what I was planning, the first thing he said to me was go some place that does this type of surgery a lot. No other doctors perform 4-6 TR's every day 4 days a week. I figure they have probably seen it all. Also, in reading earlier posts, I discovered that the doctors here have "gone beyond the call of duty" during operations. Several women wrote about the doctors finding fibroids and removing them at no extra charge. Would any doctor do that? I don't want to take that chance. Back to my DF, once he looked over the web site, he was 100% on board to go to CH as well. We likely only get one chance at TR, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Good luck to you.

Impatient - Simply stated - CH has the most experience performing tubal reversal surgery that any other place. The price is more that reasonable and the center itself is wonderful. Dr.Berger was nothing but straight-forward with my husband and I, and the surgery was exactly what was promised. The nursing staff is EXCEPTIONAL. I received terrific care before and after the surgery, and during the entire year I was ttc I received immediate response from the nursing staff and Dr. Berger himself. The center is clean and professional. The message board provides an excellent source of knowledge and support from ladies that are all over the spectrum trying to conceive. These ladies are THE BEST. It's important to know there is no guarantee - some ladies do not get pg after this surgery. I have many friends that have not been successful and I think it's crucial to understand that other factors can and do affect fertility after TR. No matter how fertile you were before, it may be a very different experience afterward. However, I believe that CH gave me the best chance to be successful naturally after my surgery since my dh and I didn't want nor could we afford IVF. Of course, I'm also a success story with a 2 year old TR baby named Carly. I know it would never have been possible without my reversal and Dr.Berger did an exceptional job. My OB told me after my c-section that my tubes looked completely "untouched" and whoever had done the work was a true genius. My dh was skeptical as well. He didn't like the idea of paying a doctor we never met or seen before, but after watching the DVD we ordered it felt a lot more "real" for both of us. After the consult my dh felt confident it would work for us. I can't say that the other centers are any better or worse that CH, but I know I picked the most experienced and professional center, and I feel one of the reasons I'm looking at my own TR baby is the skill and care of Dr. Berger. I still visit this board after 4 years. I'm no longer ttc - our family is complete - but the friendships and connections I have here at CH are forever. Best of luck!! Tanya

I agree with PPs. I did call a local doctor who did TRs, but the staff was unable to answer my questions. They didn't know how many TRs he had performed, but they did say he didn't do many. They had no statistics. They didn't have any pregnancy rate quotes. These stats can be skewed because people don't follow up, but I liked having them available. Most importantly for me, it had to feel right, and CH did.

Welcome to the Tubal Reversal Message Board, Impatient in California. Some great reasons to choose Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center are the following. Dr. Berger has successfully performed over 8,000 tubal reversals, more than any other Dr. He has pioneered and improved over the years the micro surgical outpatient surgery. Also we keep an updated pregnancy database so that you can see our pregnancy success statistics. I hope this has helped you in your decision and I hope to see you here with us soon.

Impatient- I'm also from California and it was the best decision I have ever made in my life. Yes it is a distance but a very worth it experience on my behalf as well as the other ladies that have had their surgery at CHTRC. My Husband tried to convince me to go elsewhere, like San Diego, Beverly Hills, and what not. After intense research I have found that CHTRC is the world's only premier center that only specializes in just Tubal Reversal. So I asked myself. Do I just want to go anywhere and have the surgery performed or do I want someone that just specializes in just that? After finding CHTRC I was convinced that this was the place for me with no doubt. I then contacted CHTRC and spoke to the staff and said honey, we are flying to CHTRC. With no hesitation we were on our way. Had my surgery with DR.M On May 10, 2010. We are now just starting to TTC. Since my surgery I have found myself being an advocate for all woman who have had a tubal ligation and inform them that they are not alone on all the symptoms that they have because of the decision they made to have a TL performed. I let them know that there are 2 very well specialized Doctors at CHTRC that gives us the opportunity to have another bundle of joy in our arms.

Dear Impatient, We have two doctors who are specialists in Tubal Reversal. It is done on as outpatient surgery...a 3 day committment and 2 or 3 night stay in a local hotel. They restore women's fertility in 98% of their cases. Women come here from ALL over the world! This one of the few places left that when you call you actually talk to a real person! As Julia said, we are available to you 7 days a week! We look forward to helping you start your journey. Anne

I should also say that my ob/gyn told me that the day Dr. Berger no longer did this procedure would be a sad day for women everywhere. That was enough for me.

Hi Impatient, I did go somewhere else because it was cheaper. Biggest mistake of my life. Both tubes are blocked and now I am going to Chapel Hill for my re-reversal in March. Susan.
