Sorry..I had the same questions TR is tubal Reversal and TTC is try to conceive! when you are reading the posts, scroll down to the bottom of the page it will show you all the abbreviations..there are still some i dont know~

We took care of everything in one trip. We had our pre surgery consult the day before the surgery. All medical records and tests were done by my local dr. and faxed over. They also do phone interviews prior. The staff at Chapel hill has patients come from all over the world so they are good at guiding you through!

My friend also lives in Virginia about 5 hrs away from CH, so we went early and made a vacation out of it! Added in more to do to not waste those expensive plane tickets!

Welcome to the message boards, you will find every answer to any question on here. The girls are very friendly and informative.

I had my TR on 06/30/08 and I travelled all the way from Kuwait in the Middle East, I am originally from the UK but I would've been prepared to travel from anywhere to see Dr Berger and his wonderful staff.

The operation is a breeze, they make you VERY comfortable, sometimes I forget I even had surgery I feel that good.

If you go ahead you will have your consultation on the same day or even the day before. If you book a 3/4 day stay at the Sheraton you will be fine. The hotel shuttle even takes care of your transportation to the clinic, they have patients nearly every day, not everyone posts on the boards so it is amazing how many others you see there.

Have you booked your TR yet? when you do, take a look at the post Waiting Room and ask them to add you to the list, it is very exciting to watch your waiting days reduce.

Our patients travel to Chapel Hill only once, for the actual surgery.
The entire preoperative process is done over the phone, by fax and email. It is quite a precise process and works quite well.
Our tubal reversal nurses are always available by phone or email if you wish to ask more personal questions.

Hi, I flew from Illinois to have my TR done on 4-07-05, I have 2 TR babys, both boys and we are currently TTC our last TR baby,(TTC a baby girl). You will have the best experience, from the hotel which is beautiful and the room service is great. Everyone at the Tubal Reveral Center is really great people, they do everything the can to make you comfortable and to feel like home. Good Luck.

We drove from WI (16 hours) and would do it over again in a heartbeat! I had my TR 7/24/07..almost a year ago..Did have 1 M/C since TR (due to low progesterone we believe) but we are still optimistic and never give up trying! Good luck to you, the staff at CH is great! We traveled from Southern Cali to have our surgery done by Dr. B...my DH researched for two years while we saved, and Dr. B has the highest success rate in the Nation I think. Not to mention the people there are great and so helpful, and Dr. B is truly a gifted surgeon. We owe our 5th little princess to Dr. B

Wow, it sounds like so many from all parts of the nation. I'm in the city of Maricopa. I think I can find flights at around the $300 mark. I couldn't imagine driving home after surgery across country.

We just finished with an IVF cycle that failed. We went in for a TR consult but out local (well, a couple hours away) clinic convinced us to do IVF because insurance would pay for part of it and they were "almost positive" it would work the first time. This is a big and well-known reputable clinic. Anyway, even after a "perfect" cycle (according to the doctors and nurses) we still failed to conceive. Now we are rethinking TR. Yes, it would be more expensive. But it wouldn't cost us every time we try either! [Wink] Plus, I am certain that I have PTLS too. DH has a low sperm count but I think a lot of that is do to being a smoker (he's now willing to quit), wearing tight undies, etc. So we're thinking that if we can raise his counts TR might be a better way to go.

Anyone else do IVF first and the TR instead of the other way around? Thoughts from you ladies on my situation?

There is a March 07 girl named Martica that did IVF and it failed- That was in Jan 2007 (I think) then they had TR done by Dr. Berger in March 07 and she was our first PG mommie after TR and delivered a beautiful baby boy Dec 17th 2007- Now they are thinking about Tr baby number 2

I say there is NO OTHER like Dr. Berger - Sure we all have local Doctors in our areas but do they have the experiment as DR. Berger and on top of the newsest and best ways to do a TR? Dr. Berger only does Tr's wanting a baby so bad I only wanted the best...

I had PTLS too really really bad and after my TR with each passing month I woucl feel my body as if it were coming back to life and acting normal again.. After 10 months of TTC we finally got our BFP and are due 09-11-08...

With a tr you can try every month and you have already tried IVF so I say go to Dr.Berger and get your TR done... [Big Grin]

I did not try the IVF. I was told the same thing. I instead got a TR. I had mine on 3-24-2008. This will be our first cycle trying. Like you I thought at lest I want have to pay every time we try. Oh and the PTLS has greatly inproved. Just to let you know.

VWChick--We have had many women come to Dr. Berger for TR after having failed IVF treatment. In most cases TR has higher pregnancy and birth rates than IVF. I am glad that you are rethinking TR. Please call and speak to one of the nurses if you have questions. Best wishes.

VW..yep..we did IVF in 05 cuz dr's said TR was IMPOSSIBLE......and when it wasnt sucessful....dr's said they wouldn't do it again unless we used donor eggs because my eggs were useless.

Had TR 7/23/07 have been pg twice...and hoping 3rd one is a sticky one!

I should have done TR first!

I did IVF in 2006. One fresh cycle and one frozen. I did conceive with the first cycle, but miscarried at 12 weeks. The frozen cycle was a Chemical pregnancy. We only had 2 embryos survive the freeze and thaw cycle, so we used them both up at the same time. 11 Months later I had my TR surgery. No BFP yet, but we still have hope... and 2 years later I have finally lost all the weight that I gained on the IVF meds.
One more IVF cycle may be in our future, but I haven't gotten to that point yet, I think I will try for another year, then revisit the idea with the DH.

VWChick. I was convinced also by the doctors to do IVF first because of the same thing. That they where so certain I would get pregnant right off because all the tests where perfect and my eggs where perfect and we made the most perfect embryos. It failed. Then they had us do an FET cycle with the leftover eggs to expend what we had. When the FET didn't work he said not to do another cycle. He said if you where 38 I would tell you to do another cycle but you're young, healthy and your eggs and embryos where of perfect quality. He also said my chances would be better with a TR in the long run. This is after he made me do IVF he admits my chances where better with the TR. I was so pissed and hence why I refused to have him do my TR. Plus something kept pulling me back to Dr. B's site and I'm so glad I did. I had my TR on 3.26.08. I hope this helps. Good luck in whatever decision you make. But I agree with you on making sure that his sperm count is raised before you make your decision.

I too, tried IVF first. Was told I was a perfect candidate. My insurance covered some and it was STILL more expensive than TR. I conceived the first try and had an M/C in the 9th and 12th weeks (twins). 2nd cycle was unsuccessful. I was then told my eggs were old and should consider an egg donor. I had my TR 2/15/06 and BFP 2/9/07. I have a beautiful 6 month old daughter today! BTW - the RE I saw was rated in the top 10 of the U.S and in the end I spent 4 times as much on IVF as TR. I too was steered towards IVF by my doctor of 22 years! In fact, he's the one that did my TL! After 2 IVF cycles costing us over $20k, we decided that TR was our best choice. In my heart, I had felt this was the right answer to begin with, but I was swayed by my docotr and the IVF specialist that IVF was easier and more successful. I now beg to differ! The hormone treatment/injections took a horrible toll on my body and emotions! Anyway, I had my TR in 1/08 and we are ttc this very week! Dr. Berger and his staff are awesome!!!

Hi This is Martica, My TR sister Becki wrote here about me. I did have a failed IVF in December 2007 had the surgery in March and was pregnant a couple days later. I have a beautiful baby boy that I never thought could be after the heartbreaking news of the IVF not working. AJ was quite an expensive baby and we call him the golden child 25K in IVF and 5800 in TR but if I had to do it all over I would have probably skipped the IVF. Doctors lie to you and tell you high percentages on getting pregant what they do not emphasize is that its a one shot deal and most of the time does not work. Im glad I went through with my TR (even though I was very down in the dumps) Also they told me that my husbands sperm was not that great... Well I guess it was cause he got me pregnant 2 weeks later!!

I am so glad i read these post. Just today i went to my gyn to talk to them about getting my tubes reversed and she told me the same thing that most of you talked about. That my eggs may be to old and few and that I should consider IVF fr a better success. This had me quite upset because i know that i will not be able to fund IVF. Now you ladies have just confirmed that I have made the right choice in having my TR. Thanks so much I know God sent me here for a reason. GOD BLESS!!!

i just had an ivf cycle. my re said that i had an a+ on all the pre-test and gave me a very high chance of success. well, i over stimulated and my cycle got cancelled. i was devistated. now, im also looking into doing a tr. i wish i would have tried a tr first, but i also had a dr say mine wasnt irreversible.

I to tried IVF first and was lucky it was a success. Now after two years my husband and I want another child so are looking in to TR my doctor had told me in the beginning that IVF would be better. It was a good experience but now in order to get pregnant again I have to go through all of the same stuff and the expense is outrageous. So i'm leaning more towards TR if it dosen't work then back to IVF. Good luck though. I have heard nothing but positive on Dr. B's site.

I tried IVF and it did not work. I am 34 now and I was 33 when I did it. He gave me all kind of hope since I was so young and I already had 2 children. My husband is good too, so there was no problems. I have 1 tube and 1 ovary only but everything went excellent the whole treatment. My doctor told me in the first visit that I did not have any chances of a TR because it has been 13 years since my TL, that's why I decided to go with the IVF. I spent around 16,000 because he did not buy enough medication for my whole treatment and i ran out of it. I apologize girls about my lack of good abbreviations as you guys use but this is my first time writing and i really don't know them.I already send almost all my paperwork to Dr. Berger and i have already been treated like i was there. They are great and i am looking forward to have my surgery. You know what, at the end it doe not matter how many ovaryes, tubes, try outs, ivf cycles or whatever what it really matters is that is up to GOD to work it out!!! so you go with your instincts and pray GOD to give you your miracle!!!! you will be in my prayers...take care and don't give up on GOD...

I was scheduled for IVF next month, but have decided to cancel it. I just can't risk it. I know it works for some, but my doctor, despite my labs being "very good" said 20% chance it would work. I can't risk OHSS, multiple births or worse yet, BFN-- not for $15,000.

I had my TR 12/05 and I'll keep trying, if it's meant to be it will happen, if not, I'm OK- I guess.

We r just excited its our turn.... I called at work to tell Hubby I was gonna run by the bank and get the check and get it going..He was so excited he acted as if he needed to be there at the bank also..The lady is like what can I do for u..He's all smiles and says I need this for Chapel Hill u would have thought he was a kid in a candy store and could get anything he wanted he was go happy.. [Smile] This makes several times we have had the money right in our hand and something has always took it but not this time..That money is on its way to Chapel Hill finally!! Yay ..

I got all my bloodwork done yesterday so hopefully we will be good to go I will talk with Rhonda tomorrow to try and get my date in June and I will let u ladies know!! Please everyone keep us in your prayers and we will do the same for u all!!

Do Symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome Improve After Tubal Reversal?

Welcome to the board! You will find so much information here. I've hanging around here for almost 5 years, but recently started posting. I'm 33 and I suffer PTLS so bad and have regretted my TL even on the OR table having it done. I just scheduled my surgery for April 11th! I've been saving for the past 3 years and finally able to schedule. Anyway, I didn't have the Parkland TL as you did, but I'm sure someone will chime in and help you with information. Again, welcome to the board and read up as much info as you can here. LOL

Welcome to the board. We have had many patients that have come for surgery for PTLS and most women report an improvement following the surgery. Not only are they feeling better but they also have a chance for another baby if they desire. Dr. Berger has performed the reversal procedure on many women that had a Parkland tubal ligation. I had PTLS SO bad- I too was put on BC pills- didn't help! They did a D&C because of all the bleeding every week- didn't help. They did a lap and when in to see what was wrong- NOTHING the next step they wanted to do was a hystorectomy (sp?) I'm 34- I had my TL in 2000 and have four kids. I didn't know what was wrong with my body but I knew there was something- every DR just told me it was all in my head and there was nothing wrong. I was causing my body to do these things.... YEA Right!!! After 4 years of hopelessness I found Dr. Bergers website.. There was once again hope for me...
Took a year almost two to get the money - last March 9th, 2007 I had my TR and it was the BEST thnig I have ever done!!! The staff there at chapel hill were AWESOME!!! I wish all dr.'s and staff ran their bussinesses that way! They were friendly and caring and made me feel important!
Dr. Berger was amazing!!! HE talked to me and listened-- he didn't think these symptoms were crazy or in my head- He said he has seen several women with the same thing... The whole experience at chapel hill was wonderful!!
I came out with 5.5 on my rigt and 5.0 on left for my tube lengths. The first cycle after my TR was great!!! Then each month I started feeling my body getting back to normal!! Almost all of my PTLS symptoms were gone and I had my sex drive back and my moods were SO much better!!
In Aug-2007 I went in for my HSG to see if my tubes were open because I still hadn't gotten a BFP-- I followed Dr. bergers instructions to a T -- I was driving my Dr. here crazy because I kept saying Dr. Berger says this and Dr. Berger say that (lol) They were both open and the dye flowed prefectly... IN Jan 2008- I got my first BFP (note- I was one of the later ones to get a BFP then the rest of the March 07 girls) I am now due 09-15-08 and thrilled to death!!!
Finding Dr. Berger and going to chapel hill was the best choice ever!!! I even think if I never got a BFP I would have been happy with the results of the PTLS being gone and Dr, Berger believing there was such a thing...

2 girls mama I've had two preganancies, 1 was a MC, which happens. One was an EP I suspect I've had tube width problems on that side, after surgery it was way too skinny. My oldest DD I think had a hang up in that tube, I had repeated Negative preg tests with her and lots of pain on that side, I think just the way my body was made, it's been skinny since birth on that side. So no big deal, they took it out I'm fine. I suspect even without any surgeries I may have had troubles with that tube. My left side is perfect so we are trying again. We are getting excited!!
As far as PTLS my periods now instead of being 9-14 days long, they are now 5 days long.
The exhaustion and pain all month are GONE!!
I've got normal PMS nothing unbearable.
For PTLS it works. I can obviously get pregnant and we will be trying again soon.

Even with the MC and EP I know I've made the right choice getting TR. It's really changed my life I feel alot better now.
Even down to being warmer I used to be cold all of the time, I'm warmer now... It improves symtoms you would'nt think were, or notice until they are gone. Kind of amazing really.
They've tried for years to put me on BC I've even had hysterectomy offered due to the pain...
I've held out, NO pills nothing. I'm glad I did, TR was the answer. It works. I don't know how or why, someday technology will tell us why i'm sure.
There is risk involved but even after everything we've had happen I have to say I'm 100% still completely happy with my choice!!! I wouldn't change a thing.
PTLS is NOT in your head, we can say it to you but I guarantee you'll see after you get surgery. The bleeding I was having was completely out of control it was like hemmoragging every month and now it's at a good normal AF. Like I was before TL.
You'll probably still have some PMS that is normal you are supposed to it means your ovaries are working! But near bleeding to death every month the horrible pain, is just intolerable, Becki I know how it was for you it was the same for me over the top and dysfunctional to say the least.
Thank GOD for Dr. Berger. He is the best!! He changed my life for the better.
2 girls mama at 31??? Seriously... that's the thing you have to question, I know I did that's how I found Dr. Berger. I'm 35. There's just a point where it doesn't make sense anymore. The logic isn't there. It could happen, but not in the numbers it is, there is obviously a link between TL and PTLS.
You've come to the right place.

I also am with Becki, even if we don't have a baby, the PTLS relief is so incredible that I honestly don't care, I know it's horrible to say with everyone TTC, but it is true.

As my DH says I don't want to lose you.It makes me so mad that the doctors who do these TLs are allowed to not tell us the risks.Thank God for Dr.Berger and his staff.

With any surgery there is risk involved- BUT I can tell you this- I have had 6 laps, a TL, TR and my apendix taken out--
This was by far the easiest surgery I have ever had.. They are that good there!!!
My TL was horrible and hurt for several days--
With my Tr I remember getting on the bed and Dr. Berger coming in and said HI said something to the nurses and the next time I knew they were waking me up-- I was SO tired but the asked me how the pain was and I really didn't have any I just wanted to sleep. Dr Berger came in and told me how the surgery went - and my lenghts, I drank a juice box-- IT WAS SO YUMMY!!! Went back to the hotel and slept most the day - I really didn't feel any pain- I did take my med on time and the next day the nurse came in and checked me-- I then drove 7 hours to get home and once I was home I didn't need to take any more meds..
I felt very relaxed and comforted at chapel hill, I knew I was where I was supposed to be and all would be well!!!
I just wish I would find a dr. and staff like Dr. Berger and his staff- They really spoiled me! Now I have high expectations as the service I should get (lol)

My DH was not sure too- he thought it was all a scam and was pretty worried I would have something go wrong or get an infection- you never know about Dr's these days-- But once I had my consult and we met the staff and the care, then Meeting Dr. Berger my DH was impressed just as much as I was and he told me he had a good feeling about this!!!

You know after I go PG and the blood draws and all that protocal - MY DH still says do what ever Dr. Berger suggests because that is what is best!!!!

MY first numbers were 10,333 and the dr. office would not do an ultra sound because they said it was still to early and they wouldn't see anything - dr. Berger says you can at 1500-2500 so we talked about it and my DH said what would Dr. Berger suggest you do-- I said go to the ER
And off we went-- They did teh ultra sound an sure enough you could see the sac and yoke...

I'm tell you - This is the best place you could ever ask for- Dr. Berger is hands down the best DR in the world. I know you and your DH will love him too!!!!

Pregnant At Age 44 Following Tubal Reversal Surgery With Dr. Berger

Many times women age 40 or over who have had tubal ligation are encouraged to undergo IVF with donor egg due to their age. In a study performed by Dr. Berger, pregnancy rates after tubal reversal were higher than after IVF within every age group. Hello everyone. I have been watching this site for over 6 months while planning to have a tubal reversal but this is my first time writing in. My doctor here in Florida also highly recommended Dr. Berger, I've been in touch with the office but I started to do a little research on my own and looked at some other doctors. I requested some information from a doctor in Kentucky. Being a nurse myself I was surprised and impressed when my phone rang one day and it was [the doctor] himself. Something doctors don't do very often. I thought it was a good sign of caring and confidence. If anyone can help me make my final decision, whether its a past patient, nurse or Dr. Berger himself I would appreciate it. I mainly want to know what the difference between the two doctors methods are and how responsible they hold themselves and their work to results after the patient has paid for and gone through the procedure.

I can only tell you how I came to my decision. I
too was on [the other doctor's] site (for a short time), the reason I lurked, but didn't participate was 2 fold,
1. I really felt like everyone was worshipping him, it felt funny, like he was a deity or something, I would prefer a little more modesty. And the other reason was that I REALLY respect Dr. Berger because he POSTS EVERYTHING, the good, the bad, the ugly....I feel like he holds NOTHING back. I see EVERY statistic, he keeps records of every possible variation, as though he was constantly conducting research. [The other doctor] is all sunshine and roses and we as mothers know that if something seems to good be to be true, it probably is. I can't trust someone who doesn't disclose everything.

2.I also preferred the "staff" here. The nurses are friendly, helpful, and ACTUALLY wanting to help you have a baby.

OH I need to add a few more reasons (sorry, the more I think the more I realize).
3. I found Dr. Berger on the OneMoreSoul.com site, he WANTS to help bring about a new soul, it's not all about the money for him. He cares about he souls he helps to produce. Just the fact that he knows a soul is involved is amazing.
4. For number 4 I wanted to include all the little reasons that matter but not as much, the price, the helpfulness of the site, he is doctor recommended, he works WITH our current doctors before during and after, and his staff is SOOO Smart and they are willing to share all their knowledge.

Hope this helps... It doesn't mater to me who you pick, I just found myself in your shoes and I wanted to words to my decision.

Setting up and maintaining a system to ensure ongoing follow-up is not usually found in a private medical practice since this is costly and time-consuming and requires staff knowledgeable in database management. Regardless of the cost and time requirement, Dr. Berger has made it a priority because of his commitment to giving patients all of the information they should have in order to make an informed decision about tubal reversal surgery.

At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, we have a computer system where every nurse enters patient information before, during, and after each surgery. In fact, all 11 of our nurses contact patients, record data and make daily entries into computerized records.

With this follow-up information, Dr. Berger can analyze and report accurate statistical data about the long-term outcomes of tubal reversal procedures he has performed. Other doctors often quote our statistics -- but they cannot provide information on their own since they are not able (or willing) to go to the time and expense of collecting their own data!

The patient follow-up system consists of information collected in many different ways and includes a minimum of 6 calls or e-mails to the patient in the first year following surgery.

1. Post-operative nurse visit the morning after surgery;
2. Telephone follow-up on the second postoperative day;
3. Telephone follow-up on the third postoperative day;
4. E-mail questionnaire at two weeks;
5. Telephone contact at 6 months;
6. Telephone contact at 12 months.

Other information is collected and recorded any time we communicate with patients post-operatively. These contacts are usually initiated by patients to report pregnancies and the outcomes of pregnancies. When patients report new pregnancies, we request that they complete a Pregnancy Report Form. Each week, we summarize the new pregnancy results in the Weekly Pregnancy Report Forum of the Tubal Reversal Message Board and also give more details in the Weekly Pregnancy Announcements.
After reading our information and statistics and comparing it to what might be available from other doctors, we believe patients will recognize that Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is the only facility where accuracy of information is considered to be a priority and sharing it with prospective patients is considered to be a necessity. Providing facts rather than offering misleading or speculative statements about tubal reversal success is one mission of our practice. We believe this is the right thing to do.

Hi Savannah and welcome to the board. I'm also from FL..Panama City area. I have not had my TR yet, but plan to schedule after New years. I began researching TR doctors about 7 or 8 years ago and my search ended when I found Dr Berger. It just feels right!! Not only will you find amazing support from Dr B and his staff, but the ladies on this board are all very supportive and informative. I just couldn't imagine going anywhere else.
I wish you lots of luck no matter where you decide to have TR!!

I wanted to add a little something to this post that helped me make my decision. I also researched the Doctor in KY. He charges extra of you are overweight. Dr. Berger just plain old won't operate because it isn't safe regarding anethesia. I am not overweight, so that wasn't an issue, but it made HUGE warning bells go off in my head that a doctor would essentially perform elective surgery on someone where it wasn't necessarily the safest. he also wanted pictures of you in bra and panties to assess your weight. Ummm....how about HECK NO!!!

I felt that in the KY docs literature that he was bashing Dr.Berger's surgical technique. (and really it was a roundabout way to bash Dr.Berger himself.) I don't feel that anyone should have to bring someone else down to raise themselves up. It just isn't right.

The other doctor includes all pregnancies into his statistics, including those achieved by IVF. Umm...that isn't the same thing. If I wanted to achieve pregnancy by IVF, I would have gone that route to begin with. If I remember correctly, the other doctor offered IVF if the TR didn;t work. That's all well and good, but I live in NY, so I certainly wouldn't be traveling to KY to have that done.

Anyway, I had my TR is 2004 and I really felt that Dr. Berger cared about me. He also cared about my reasons for wanting the surgery. His staff was beyond excellent. My TR baby is 2, so I know for sure the surgery works! HTH!
